Indian Writers

Chief Editor: Dr. Sreenivasarao Vepachedu

Biographies of Telugu Indian Writers

Note: Every language has its own grammar rules and culture. In English and other Indo-European languages (such as Hindi), the given names are written first and then family names, in general. That is why the family name is called "last name" in English.  So, "last name" in English means family name or surname, whereever it is written, i.e., whether written first (as in Telugu language) or last (as in English language or Hindi or other Ind-European languages).

In Telugu, the family names (imtiperlu) are written first and the given names last, and when Telugu names are written in Roman script they are broken into meaningless short words and abbreviated for convenience (and confusion), contrary to Telugu language grammar. Most of the following Indian writers are Telugu writers.  Their names are written according to English language tradition, because the following biographies are in English language and script. Thus, the family names are written last, e.g., Potana Bammera, wherein Potana is the given name and Bammera is the family name/surname. The caste identifiers like Reddi, Raju, Nayudu, Sarma, Sastri and other masculine suffixes like Rao, Murthy, du, lu, ayya, etc and feminine suffixes like amma, devi etc. are part of given names as per Telugu samasa/samdhi rules and traditions. Please note that some of these masculine suffixes have become  family names (imtiperlu) outside Andhra Pradesh, e.g., Rao, Reddy, Murthy etc.
