Suryanarayanasastri Malladi (1880-1962)

Suryanarayanasatri was born in Barlenka village in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh on February 20, 1880.  His father was Ramavadhani and mother was Venkamamba.  

After finishing his primary education, he studied Sanskrit from Brahmayyasastri Charla. At the age of 22, he finished translation of udyogaparvam from Sanskrit Mahabharatam and published it. Then he translated uttararamacharitra. He traveled to various Telugu kingdoms to earn money. Later he became a Telugu Pundit at Amalapuram High School till 1914. He worked for a short period for Andhra Sahitya Parishattu, before becoming a Pundit at Rajamahendravaram Training College in 1915.  He was tranferred from there to Anantapuram for three years.

In 1927, he started a Teacher Pundit Association (upadhyaya pamdita parishattu).  In 1931, he quit the government teacher job (Pundit) to take up a position as lecturer in the newly established Andhra University.

His works include both translations and original writings such as udyoagaparvamu, uttararaamacharita, mahaveeracharita, satyakeerti, pagnaasantanavamu, dasarupakamu, samskritavangmayacharitra, aandhramahabharata peethika, aamdhrabhavishyaparvamu, vaidikavaangmayacharitra, loukikavaangmayacharitra, bhavishyaparvamu, visrutorvaseeyamu, maalateemaadhavamu, samskritakavulacharitra, kalapoornodayam, etc., and essays like sri vijayaranga chokkanadhudu, krishnarjuna pariseelanamu etc.
